Halloween Lights in Etobicoke

Halloween lights go up for one month and come down in a hurry on November 1. Or they could already be on the house, waiting for October.

Permanent Halloween lights are Govee permanent outdoor lights mounted along your roofline that you switch to Halloween colours in an app: orange, purple, green, or a mix. On November 1 they go back to warm white, or straight to Christmas. Nothing goes up or comes down, and the photos below are our own installs.

Below: Halloween lights on real houses, which colours work best, how they look with decorations, and when to install.

Our installs

What do permanent Halloween lights look like?

Three of our installs, set to Halloween orange. Same lights as every other night of the year, different setting in the app.

Colours

Which Halloween colours work best?

Start simple. From the street, one or two colours read better than five.

Orange

The classic. It's what all three houses above are running, on siding and on stone.

Orange and purple

Alternating along the run. Govee's lights can show more than one colour at once, so the pattern is a setting, not a second string.

Green

For something eerier. It pairs well with an orange porch or orange decorations on the lawn.

Back to warm white

On November 1, switch back in a tap, or set a schedule so it happens on its own.

Decorations

Do permanent lights work with Halloween decorations?

They do. Look at the photos above: inflatable pumpkins, a tall pumpkin-headed figure, decorations on the porch. The roofline lights frame the house, and the decorations do their thing on the lawn and porch.

One practical tip: inflatables plug in too. Plan which outdoor outlet each one uses before October, so nothing fights the roofline lights for the same plug.

Timing

When should I install for Halloween?

September or early October. The clips use adhesive tape that holds best on a clean, dry, warm surface, and fall gets colder every week. Install once, and next year there's nothing to plan at all: you just pick orange in the app.
